Super Powers

I was in the field today when I accidentally walked into a hornet's nest, and got stung four times.  Not a huge number, but I wasn't sure how I'd react so I went home.  All stings were on and near my left boob, and were getting swollen and kind of itchy and painful.  I sprayed some liquid Benadryl on the area, and laid down for "a few minutes".

Three hours later l woke up.  I know.  There's almost no evidence of any stings -- just four tiny red marks, no pain or swelling, which seems exactly like something that would happen in a fairy tale or comic book.  Do you think I got inoculated with my super power?  I do too!  I can't tell what it is yet, though.  So far I don't seem able to fly or pass through walls, but I'm about to go test out some other things.  Let me know if you have any suggestions.

  2. I think your super power is 'going home from work in the middle of the day and NAPPING'. The hornets are perhaps a gateway insect to (tada) cricket flour!!

Anyway. The whole thing smells of subterfuge in the flying, biting, stinging world. And four stings gives me the chills, literally. Ouch. And your boob?! They're not playing fair.

    1. Totally unfair, the boob attack. But yes, I guess I have to accept my lame tired little super power as napping. Grr. I want invisibility!

  4. Your reaction is good thing. I imagine the next time you get stung your body will react to the protein even faster and you will notice less pain...so get out there and test that!

  5. I think you should at least mention it to a health professional. Sleeping could be a sign of an allergic reaction that could be much worse if you're stung again.

    1. I think sleeping is sort of a sign of being alive, for me! :-) But thanks for the tip.

  6. Uh- the Benadryl could have made you sleepy. Even topically applied.
Is it odd that I find nothing unusual about a three-hour nap?

    1. I know, it's really not THAT outlandish for me either. But yes, let's blame the benadryl. xo

  7. You might already know, being a bee person and all, but just because you didn't end up with large welty spots or unable to breath doesn't mean it couldn't happen the next time. So be careful out there!

Your superpower is obvious - duh - the ability to sleep like a brick.

    1. I do realize you had large welty spots in the beginning; I meant if you continued to have them. :)

  8. You must have boobs of steel, but as far as the Benadryl goes, there's a nap for that.
